Getting accurate velocities

  • Tape the distance to the steel. Every foot of error is worth about 31 fps at 100 yards.
  • Get temperature right. Each degree Fahrenheit is worth about 7 fps. A handheld weather meter in the shade beats the forecast.
  • Mind wind along the range. A tailwind or headwind changes how fast the ring travels back to you, about 9 fps per mph.
  • Let the phone read pressure. Chronoless reads station pressure from the barometer when you start listening. If you see a sea-level pressure warning at altitude, fix it before you shoot.
  • Keep the phone on the bench, a few feet from the muzzle, with the microphone uncovered.
  • Set the compass away from steel. Hold the phone a foot or two from the rifle and vehicles when you take your shooting direction.

Common questions

A shot was missed or doubled

Open the shot and check where Chronoless marked the blast and the ring. Tap to move a marker that landed on the wrong sound, such as a shot from the next lane, and the velocity updates.

My velocities read high or low

Check the distance to the steel first, then temperature and air pressure. Those three explain nearly every offset.

Does it need cell service?

No. The chronograph, barometer and solver work offline. Weather lookup needs a connection, or you can enter conditions yourself.

How do I delete my data?

Your profiles and shot strings are stored on your phone. Deleting the app deletes them.
